根据阿拉伯知识经济报告,阿拉伯国家互联网用户的数量预计在2017年达到1.97亿,用户的比例将从2012年的32%增加到51%。

该项研究是由穆达尔研究发展组织和东方星球公共关系和传播咨询公司联合展开的,研究的焦点是阿拉伯地区经济的优势与劣势以及由此带来的机遇与挑战。

报告指出在2012年18个阿拉伯国家共有111,721,020名互联网用户,比2011年增长了18.89%。这一数值将会在2017年增加到1.97亿。

报告还指出,海合会成员国构成世界第十二大经济区域,2013年的国民国民生产总值的增长率为4.03%。

卡塔尔拥有191万人口,在2013年,是海合会成员国内人均GDP最高的国家,全世界人均GDP第二,为105169美元。紧接着是科威特为47265美元。

在2013年,海合会成员国的人口平均增长率为3.68%。卡塔尔为11.36%,增长速度最快,接下来是阿联酋增长率为5%。人口的增长主要是因为大量外来工作人员的流入。阿联酋与卡塔尔的本地人口分别占总人口数的13%和14%。

报告称,在阿拉伯地区,成人的受教育水平仍然是阻碍当今以知识经济为基础的社会发展的主要障碍。

Thenumber of internet users in the Arab World is expected to reach 197 million by2017, a penetration of over 51 percent from 32 percent in 2012, according tothe first ever Arab Knowledge Economy Report.

The study, jointly carried out by Madar Research &Development and Orient Planet, focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of theregion's economy along with the opportunities and risks associated with it.

It said  there were 111,721,020 internet users in 18 Arabcountries in 2012, up 18.98 percent on the previous year, and will increase toabout 197 million by 2017.

The report also said GCC countries comprise the 12th largesteconomic region in the world with a recorded Gross Domestic Product (GDP)growth rate of 4.03 percent in 2013.

Qatar, with a populationof 1.91 million, emerged as the richest country per capita in the GCC and thesecond richest in the world with $105,169 in 2013, followed by Kuwait with$47,265, according to the study.

It added that in 2013, the GCC witnessed a population growth of3.68 percent with Qatarleading the way at 11.36 percent, followed by the UAE at 5 percent due to thelarge influx of foreign workers. The local population of the UAE and Qatar made upjust 13 percent and 14 percent, respectively, of the total population.

The report said adult literacy remains a major hurdle for thedevelopment of the information society and knowledge-based economy in the Arabregion with a huge discrepancy between the male and female literacy rates.

Madar Research & Development and Orient Planet said Bahrainled its newly created Arab e-Performance Index which is based on six importantglobal indexes including the Global Competitiveness Index, Networked ReadinessIndex (NRI), ICT Development Index (IDI), Global Innovation Index, KnowledgeEconomy Index (KEI), and e-Government Development Index.
